Tbg Picks

TBG Picks is a sports prediction app where users compete by making picks on soccer matches and events. I ran its UGC program, managing three creators and reviewing and approving 55 videos. The 1 week program generated 1.5M views.

Recruiting

Defining a Strong Creator

When I was recruiting for TBG Picks, I thought back to my own experience doing UGC for Wispr Flow and what separated the strongest creators from everyone else. I kept coming back to three signals: soccer knowledge, viral instinct, and high agency.

I looked for people who knew the sport well enough to have their own opinions, understood what made a hook or format worth testing, and could take a brief and push it further without needing every decision made for them.

North Star Metric

Views Are the Wrong Scoreboard

Reading and comparing the numbers afterwards made me learn that views are the easiest number to move, but the easiest one to mistake for progress. You can buy them, bait them, or get lucky with them, and none of that means a single person wanted what you were selling afterwards.

So, the posts I am proudest of did not go viral. Instead, they named a problem the person watching already relates to before asking for conversion.
